Daily Health Tips update for February 5:Don’t let the winter blahs drag you down. Stay active regardless of the climate by following these steps:
- Commit to 5 minutes of exercise. Even if it means walking in place in your living room, commit to doing that for 5 minutes each day. Most people realize that they can do a few minutes more after those first 5 minutes.
- Repurpose commercial breaks. If you’re a sports fan, it can be really easy to sit down and watch TV for hours throughout the winter months. Make it a game to stay motivated about your own fitness while you watch your favorite team. During the commercials, do pushups or sit-ups or walk up and down the stairs as many times as you can.
- Count your steps with a pedometer. Turn mundane trips to the grocery store into a challenge by doing a few extra laps around the store. Choose a time early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s not as busy or walk the malls before the stores open to avoid harried shoppers. Regardless of where you walk, set a goal for a specific number of steps and see if you can reach or beat it each day.
