4 Chemical-Free Ways to Freshen the Air

SunlightDaily Health Tips update for February 10:

Natural air fresheners and scents are fun and effective, but they don’t really deal with the problem.  Here are a few common-sense reminders to help reduce the problem before it starts:
  1. Go straight to the source. Covering up the smell will not resolve the issue, so empty and clean garbage cans regularly. Don’t allow spills to be absorbed into fabrics; this leads to sour odor.
  2. Open windows to help get rid of stale, stuffy air, even in the winter. Always use the stove fan when you cook, too. This helps pull food smells up and out of your kitchen.
  3. Let the sun do its thing. Place litter boxes, pet beds, car seats and cushions outside in the sun for a few hours. The sun helps remove moisture, preventing mold and mildew.
  4. Plants can help keep air clean in small spaces. Rubber plants, lady palms and English ivy are popular plants for workspaces.
