1. FlexibilityWorking for Swanson has been a bit of a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ for me. I started out as a catalog writer, moved into proofreading and from there got involved in the creation of our website. Once the website grew big enough, I was fortunate to be able to build a department to help run it and continue its development. At a lot of companies, there’s a set path or stringent corporate ladder to success. Not so, at SHP. We’ve definitely got more of a fluid path to success here!
2. Aligns with my way of life
When I first started at SHP, I was fresh out of college and very interested in living healthy, but didn’t know the first thing about what that meant. Working at Swanson helped teach me that the decisions I was making about my body in my 20s were going to affect my aging process and how I felt as I got older.
3. People/Culture
I love the people I work with. I’ve made some great lifelong friends! Also, I like that we’re now a big(ger) company that has maintained its small company feel and culture. There’s genuine interest in making sure we’re serving our customers’ needs first & foremost. And we can usually get it done without having to go through a lot of red tape!
4. Growth
Swanson has changed so much in the 15 years I’ve been here. It has been a fantastic journey that I feel so fortunate to be a part of—going from a small, family-owned business to one of the largest privately-held supplement providers in the United States! But as the company has grown, the values haven’t changed. People are still known by name, not a number. There are lots of smiles and laughs…now we just have a lot more of them!

5. Challenging
I’m in charge of the Swanson website. Working on the web brings new challenges daily and I’m extremely proud of the site we have today. I started working with our site back in the Wild West days of 1999. Whew, am I glad those days are over! For those readers who have been customers since then, thanks for sticking with us through our many growing pains. I’ve got a note that I’ve had hanging on my bulletin board for the last 10 years from a customer. It’s scrawled on one of our order forms and reads: “Your website is not user friendly. It’s a pain in the ass—you sell any relief for that?” So Rose W. in Casper, Wyoming, if you read this…thank you so much for keeping us honest and on task. Your note serves as a constant reminder of why we're here and who we're actually working for!
