Omega-3s: A Top Health Supplement for Hair and Skin

Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids:

Many people don’t realize how important Omega-3 EFAs actually are and that many people are deficient. I read a British experiment that was done on capuchin monkeys. They were put on a standard diet that included corn oil, which was the only fat available. The monkeys developed a variety of problems. Some started gnawing on their own bodies as if they had irritated and itchy skin. All the monkeys experienced hair loss and dandruff. The health of their skin, hair and fingernails just got really poor! After switching to flax oil, a great source of Omega-3 alpha linolenic acid, it was clear that thier diet was the problem. The monkeys all improved within two months. The tiny amount of omega-3s in corn oil was not enough for the monkeys.  And just like the monkeys, we humans can have poor skin and hair health when we are lacking Omega-3 essential fatty acids.

Fish Oil Nutrition:
One of the best health supplelments there is, and my favorite source of Omega-3 EFAs, is Cod Liver oil.  I use Swanson's Emulsified Cod Liver Oil. It is amazing! It tastes like a peppermint patty. It's one thing I don't forget to take.  I started taking it a few years back when I experienced hair loss due to stress. I researched and learned how important it was for healthy hair growth.  Cod liver oil feeds the follicles with its EPA, DHA, vitamin A, and the sunshine vitamin D. So, if you're like me and don't like swallowing pills (and usually buy liquid vitamins when possible), this is a good way to get your Omega-3s!
